Young Dolph turns tragedy into triumph on “Thinking Out Loud”

By Darius Williams, Hip-Hop Director

Just weeks after being shot multiple times in Los Angeles, Memphian Young Dolph is back and better than ever with his new album, “Thinking Out Loud.”

According to Los Angeles police, a gunman critically wounded Dolph after firing several shots at the rapper outside a Hollywood hotel in late September.

The album released Oct. 20 and depicts Dolph stacking the most money, smoking the strongest reefer, and courting the finest women all while showing appreciation for his life and those in it.

From hard hitting tracks like “Eddie Cane” to cautionary reflective jams like “While You Here,” the rapper has not let the assassination attempt knock him off his game.

In addition to Dolph releasing the album shortly after leaving the hospital, he also released the video to “Believe Me” while the artist was still recovering in the hospital.

The album features appearances from some of hip hop’s power players including Gucci Mane, DRAM, 2 Chainz, and Ty Dolla $ign.

On the track, “Go Get Some Mo,” Dolph teamed up with Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, and Ty Dolla $ign to blend their modern trap styles and produced the hottest song on the project. The song would put the proverbial hater to shame as the stable boasts about their everlasting wealth and success while making your head bop the entire time.

After dodging more than 100 gunshots in the spring of 2017 and surviving another serving in the fall, “Thinking Out Loud” proves that there’s not much that can stop Young Dolph.
