Alex G explores Americana on new track “Bobby”

Alex Giannascoli (commonly known as Alex G) is one of a few flagship artists to come out of the Bandcamp generation. In 2015, he signed to Domino Records, and released his last album, Beach Music— a strange collection of tracks that at once seemed disparate in sound and at the same time cohesive in atmosphere.

Giannascoli has toyed with a variety of sounds over the course of his discography, from more traditional, acoustically-based bedroom-pop, to jazz, to glitchy electronic instrumentals. Now on “Bobby,” the first single from his upcoming record Rocket, Alex tries his hand at Americana. The track features stringy banjo embellishments as well as a vocal feature from long-time Alex G collaborator Emily Yacina.

The video is below, and you can also hear “Bobby” on WUTK 90.3 The Rock, Volunteer Radio.
